This Easter

Happy Easter from the Rosenbergs

Easter has come and gone, and we did not see one piece of holiday paraphernalia or marketing around our city. This means we rely on homemade Easter decorations and treats to make our home festive, and celebrating with our friends here takes on special significance. Laura did a great job baking and decorating spring themed cookies, putting together baskets with candy and gifts, and organizing a gathering with some friends in town.

We hosted three other foreign families at our place this year to celebrate Easter with us. (In the past we've welcomed upwards of 50 people, so this was a smaller crowd for sure. The food was still abundant!) Sunday morning consisted of worship, reading the story of His death and resurrection, and participating in communion. Then we hid plastic, candy-filled eggs and let all the kids rummage through the freshly pesticide sprayed landscape around our apartment. By this time it was about noon and everybody was hungry! Each family brought a dish or two to share potluck style, and we feasted on chicken, pork, broccoli casserole, bread, potatoes and salad. Lastly, we went back outside and played a midwest favorite yard game called cornhole.

Holidays like Easter remind Laura and I not only of the power of His life, death, and resurrection in our lives, but also about the importance of a community--a body of people who bring into existence this power here and now on Earth. We are grateful for this community that knows and loves us and spurs us on to be light and salt in this world. We hope that your Easter festivities were as enjoyable as ours!

Just to be clear, everyone washed hands between plucking Easter eggs from under insecticide-coated bushes and lunch. Lol.
